The Ant Bully (PG) :
The Ant Bully is a moral fable about a boy who is bullied by other children, and who vents his anger by attacking an anthill. The movie revolves around the boy, whose name is Lucas, who has a fantastic adventure without even leaving his home.
After being bullied repeatedly by his friends, ten year old Lucas hoses down an anthill with water. Finally, the ants themselves get tired of being attacked, so they decide to abduct Lucas and take him into their home. The ants who abduct Lucas live in a colony in the front yard of his house, and they are able to shrink him with a magic potion prepared by Zoc, a wizard. He finds that many of the ants are eager to exact revenge for the way he stepped on them or flooded their colony with his water gun. Zoc's girlfriend Hova, (voiced by Julia Roberts) volunteers to look after Lucas as he starts to live amongst the ants.
The film also features some enjoyable and hilarious moments, including the climactic scene involving a firecracker. There is another interesting scene involving the ants' religion. However, despite a few fun moments which kids will enjoy, the movie is too similar to previous animated films like Antz and Over The Hedge. As a result, one gets the feeling of having seen it all before.
The movie realizes its magnified environment with a superbly stylized 3-D look and highly imaginative use of color. But it is also a very noisy movie, and you might end up getting a headache after watching it.
