Monster House (PG) :
Monster House is a great thrill-ride, both for children and adults. It is scary, funny, and full of surprises. With this movie, CGI animated studios has proved that the art of making animated movies is not dead.
The story revolves around a boy called DJ (Mitchell Musso). DJ lives across the street from the scariest house in the neighborhood. One day, when his friend Chowder loses control of his basketball, it rolls onto old man Nebbercracker’s (Steve Buscemi) lawn. The animation is slick and stylized. If you can mange to watch the film in a 3-D theatre, it’s quite a treat. The 3-D graphics make it look mind-blowing. The voice cast is excellent, featuring some well known talent like Catherine O’Hara and Fred Willard as DJ’s parents. However, the really hilarious characters are Kevin James and Nick Cannon as stupid policemen, and Kathleen Turner as Nebbercracker’s dead wife.
The movie strikes the right balance between being scary and funny. The kids will love all the spooky scenes, since they are quite tame to actually scare them. The adults might just be reminded of their own childhood, and the old man in the neighborhood. Monster House is a delight to watch. |
