The Replacements:
This movie is based on the strike of the football players that took place in 1987. But it is an out and out comedy where the former coach of the club is called in by the owner to coach a team of replacement players that include store guard, former sumo wrestler, a player who is deaf and also a convict who is on a work release program. A bit of romance between the former coach and the cheerleading captain is also squeezed in.

Jerry Maguire:
This movie is about family values and how one can still love their business without compromising on their family. Jerry Maguire, played by Tom Cruise, writes a mission statement keeping this in mind. The movie revolves around a football player and his team. This movie may not be out an out comedy; rather it a mix of comedy, romance and entertainment.

The Leatherheads:
This movie is about a American Football Team which is struggling to keep itself on board and the things that the Captain of the team, played by George Clooney does to keep the team together. In the course of the movie he comes across a journalist who he like and has to constantly struggle to win her over. A very hilarious movie and a must watch.

Hence, the next time these movies are shown, you should avoid thinking that they are purely football-based movie.
